According to the “Operational Programme for Education and Initial Vocational Training II” (O.P. "Education II"), Interlibrary Loan System, for the member-libraries of HEAL-Link, should follow certain specifications concerning operability and cost. After the open competition for the adoption of anadequate ILL system, which took place in the end of 2007, Fretwell-Downing's Virtual Document eXchange (VDX) was chosen. VDX is called IRIS, in Greece, according to the terms included in this project’s Technical Report. The system’s usability and proper function was ensured after the resolution of a series of problems, as well as, after the configuration of the system, according to the member-libraries needs and the ILL staff’s pertinent training. In more detail, 5 ILL seminars were carried out, in 5 geographical regions of Greece (Athens, Patra, Thessaloniki, Crete, Ioannina) and a 6th one, concerning Cyprus, took place via teleconference methods, throughout a period of time, from the middle of March 2008 until the beginning of July 2008. During the period of its proper function, from the beginning of 2008 until today, IRIS is used by more than 30 member-libraries of HEAL-Link. Furthermore, an update into version 4.1 has already taken place, improving many of the previous version’s function, such as permitting the direct search from within the system in HALUC and special configurations for the libraries’ departments.
